Sunderland Agree Deal to Sign Lyon Winger Malick Fofana

Sunderland’s just managed to get a pretty big deal done right on deadline day. They’ve agreed with Olympique Lyonnais to bring in Malick Fofana, a 21-year-old Belgian international winger.

He’s apparently got the green light to head over to England for his medical and then sign a long-term contract, a five-year deal, at the Stadium of Light. So, Sunderland and Lyon have sorted out the transfer details. It looks like Fofana will be signing on for five years, through to 2030. The paperwork is being sorted out now to get this all finalized before the transfer window shuts.

Fofana is known for being a quick, direct winger who likes to take on defenders. He put up decent numbers at Lyon, with 19 goals and 8 assists during his time there. He’s also got five senior caps for Belgium, so he’s not short on experience, especially with European competitions. That’s definitely a plus for Régis Le Bris’ team.

This signing feels like another ambitious move from Sunderland as they look to strengthen their options out wide for the Premier League and other competitions.
