River Plate have reached a verbal agreement with Atlético Madrid for the transfer of World Cup winner Thiago Almada.
After intensive negotiations between El Millonario and the Spanish side, the iconic “Here We Go!” green light has finally arrived.
According to reports initially broken by MARCA, the transfer package is valued at around €20 million. While multiple South American giants, including Flamengo, showed serious interest, Almada’s explicit desire to wear the white and red sash of River Plate proved to be the decisive factor in fast-tracking the negotiations.
Despite featuring in 40 games for Diego Simeone’s side last season, the 25-year-old Argentine playmaker found himself searching for a central role and guaranteed regular minutes.
Returning home to Argentina, Almada joins a River Plate side with massive ambitions for both domestic title races and upcoming continental campaigns.
His ability to operate as an attacking midfielder, drift out wide, or trigger transitions in transition-heavy games makes him a dream tactical fit for the Núñez outfit.
