PSV Eindhoven and RB Leipzig have agreed to a loan deal for the Dutch defender Lutsharel Geertruida. PSV will have the option to buy him permanently next summer for €15 million. Reports suggest this is a non-obligatory option, so PSV can choose whether to make the purchase permanent in 2027.
Coach Peter Bosz wanted to strengthen the defense after a shaky start to the season. Geertruida can play both right-back and center-back, which will help immediately.
RB Leipzig signed Geertruida from Feyenoord for €20 million in 2024. Manager Martín Demichelis wants to reduce the squad size, so they are letting Geertruida go to get more playing time.
This is a significant move for Geertruida back to the Eredivisie. He used to captain Feyenoord, PSV’s rival, before going to Germany.
PSV and Geertruida have already agreed on personal terms. The club is now working on getting him medically cleared and officially registered for upcoming games.
