A heavy-weight transfer battle is brewing in Serie A and Ligue 1 as both Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus have opened direct discussions with Parma for 23-year-old goalkeeper Zion Suzuki.
The Japanese international has emerged as one of the most intriguing goalkeeping properties in Europe following an impressive debut campaign in Italy and solid displays on the international stage. However, both suitors present very different pathways for the young shot-stopper.
PSG views Suzuki primarily as an investment for the future. The French champions admire his technical composure with his feet, explosive athleticism, and high ceiling, but they cannot offer him a guaranteed starting spot immediately given their current goalkeeping hierarchy.
Over in Turin, Juventus hold a very different proposition. The Bianconeri are monitoring Suzuki as their primary alternative to take over as starting goalkeeper if their prospective deal for Aston Villa’s Emiliano “Dibu” Martínez fails to cross the finish line.
If Juventus pivot away from Martínez, Suzuki would be thrust straight into the starting XI at the Allianz Stadium.
While Suzuki is enthusiastic about making the step up to a UEFA Champions League-caliber club, Parma have not yet given the final green light. The Italian side remains in active talks over valuations and structure before sanctioning a departure.
