Paul Scholes, a well-known former player for Manchester United and England, has been banned from driving for six months. This comes after he was found guilty of two driving offenses that happened within a day of each other.
The 51-year-old former soccer star faced fines and penalty points in addition to the driving ban. These penalties were handed down after court cases in West Yorkshire and Greater Manchester.
On March 3rd, Scholes was recorded driving his Range Rover at 37 mph in a 30 mph zone on Halifax Road near Cleckheaton. The incident occurred around 11:30 PM. Although he received the notice, court documents show he couldn’t take a speed awareness course to avoid a ban because he already had points on his license.
In November 2025, a Mercedes registered to Scholes was caught speeding at 49 mph in a 30 mph zone near Ashton-under-Lyne. He didn’t respond to two police requests to identify the driver, leading to a charge of failing to provide driver details.
These cases were dealt with in private hearings. Scholes did not enter pleas and was convicted without being present. He received a six-month driving ban, a £220 fine, £120 in court costs, and an £88 victim surcharge from Bradford Magistrates’ Court on August 12th. Additionally, at Manchester Magistrates’ Court on August 13th, he received six penalty points, a £660 fine, £120 in court costs, and a £264 victim surcharge.
In total, the player, who won the Premier League 11 times, was ordered to pay £1,472 in fines and was disqualified from driving for six months.
