Pape Matar Sarr is now officially a Juventus player. The midfielder, who’s 23 and plays for Senegal, joins from Tottenham Hotspur. He’ll be wearing number 29 for the Bianconeri as he heads into his new Serie A journey.
Juventus paid Tottenham an initial €2 million to loan Sarr for the season. There’s also an option to buy him for €28 million, which could make the whole deal worth €30 million. This €28 million purchase option actually turns into a mandatory obligation if Juventus makes it into European competition, either the Champions League or Europa League, and Sarr plays in at least half of the team’s games.
Sarr adds a lot of energy to Luciano Spalletti’s team in Turin. He’s a box-to-box midfielder with good athleticism, he presses hard, and he’s tactically flexible. He didn’t get a lot of first-team time at Tottenham early on, especially with new midfielders coming in. So, he’s moving to Italy to play a key role in Serie A and in European matches.
