Olympiacos and Aston Villa have come to terms on a permanent transfer for winger Leon Bailey.
The Jamaican international, who is 29, is on his way to Athens for his medical and to finalize a deal that will keep him there until June 2029. Aston Villa has approved the move.
Bailey spent five seasons with Villa, with a short loan at Roma last year. Now, he’s heading to Greece for a new opportunity. Olympiacos manager José Luis Mendilibar likes wingers who play with a lot of energy, go directly at defenders, and are good on the counter-attack.
Bailey’s speed and ability to beat players one-on-one seem like a good fit for Mendilibar’s style of play. Mendilibar has seen Bailey up close before. His Olympiacos team played against Bailey’s Aston Villa in the Europa Conference League semifinals this past year.
Getting a Premier League winger on a long-term contract like this shows Olympiacos is serious about building a strong, fast team capable of winning in Greece and performing well in Europe. With the clubs agreeing and Aston Villa giving the go-ahead, the next step is for Bailey to pass his medical tests in Athens before signing the contract.
