Chido Obi is heading to Willem II in the Netherlands for a season-long loan. That’s according to Voetbal International, who reported that a deal has been agreed upon. Manchester United has given the green light for the 18-year-old Danish youth player to have his medical tests today over there.
It looks like a straight loan deal, running until June 2027, with no option for Willem II to buy him afterward. Manchester United clearly sees Obi as an important part of what they want to build for the future.
He already got his first taste of senior Premier League action and scored 20 goals for United’s Under-18 and Under-21 teams last season. Playing regularly in the Eredivisie seems like a good next step for him to get more senior game time.
It’s interesting that Willem II was also where Alexander Isak, now at Newcastle, had a really strong loan spell. That history apparently made the move particularly attractive to Obi and his team.
