Leeds United and Borussia Mönchengladbach have agreed on the permanent transfer of Swiss defender Nico Elvedi. The deal is worth an initial £6.8 million, with potential add-ons that could bring the total to about £10 million. Mönchengladbach will also receive 15% of any future sale of Elvedi.
Elvedi, a 29-year-old center-back, was not included in Mönchengladbach’s squad for their friendly against Aston Villa. This was done to ensure the transfer could be finalized as he gets ready to move to England.
Leeds manager Daniel Farke is familiar with Elvedi, having worked with him during Farke’s time managing Mönchengladbach in the 2022-23 season. During that season, Elvedi played in 34 matches.
Elvedi has significant experience at the top level, with 364 appearances for Mönchengladbach and 17 in the Champions League. He can play as part of a two-center-back defense or in a three-man backline. His arrival at Leeds may lead to changes in the defense, as reports suggest defender Sebastiaan Bornauw might be moving to Hamburg.
