According to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, Joško Gvardiol has agreed to a brand-new long-term contract extension with Manchester City that will keep him at the club until June 2031. All terms have been fully agreed upon, with formal signing and official club media duties scheduled for today.
Since arriving from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2023, the 24-year-old Croatian international has established himself as an indispensable element of City’s backline. Equally comfortable driving forward as an inverted left-back or anchoring the defense as a central defender, Gvardiol’s combination of physical presence, composure on the ball, and tactical flexibility made him a prime target for major European giants—including heavy interest from Real Madrid.
By locking Gvardiol down to a new deal through 2031 accompanied by a deserved pay raise, City have firmly shut the door on rival suitors:
The formal signing takes place today to solidify the agreement and so will the media duties.
