FC Porto Lock Down Brazilian Starlet William Gomes Until 2031

FC Porto has made a significant move in the transfer market, securing a promising young talent from South America on a long-term contract. The player in question is William Gomes, a 20-year-old Brazilian winger, who has now committed to the club until June 2031.

A notable aspect of this new agreement is the substantial €100 million release clause, an upgrade from his previous €80 million figure. This action clearly communicates Porto’s position to European clubs, especially after facing considerable interest and having bids rejected by several top teams during the recent summer transfer window.

Gomes initially joined the Estádio do Dragão from São Paulo in January 2025, with Porto acquiring 80% of his economic rights for €9 million. Since his arrival, he has quickly risen through the ranks and established himself in European football.

With this extension, Gomes becomes part of an exclusive group at FC Porto, joining Samu Aghehowa and Borja Sainz as players with release clauses set at nine figures. Porto remained resolute during the summer transfer period, turning down offers in the multi-million euro range to keep the dynamic winger in Portugal.

By extending his contract, Porto strengthens its negotiating position should major European clubs renew their interest in future transfer windows. Gomes, a left-footed winger, is expected to continue playing a key role in Porto’s domestic competitions and their UEFA Champions League efforts. His skill set, which includes the ability to cut inside from the right flank and remarkable acceleration, positions him as one of the most captivating young talents currently in European football.
