Brighton & Hove Albion are on the verge of signing Chema Andrés, a young Spanish midfielder. It looks like things moved pretty quickly, with Brighton managing to snap up one of Europe’s up-and-coming talents, fending off other clubs and sorting through a complicated financial setup involving multiple teams.
VfB Stuttgart is set to receive a substantial €22 million for the player. On top of that immediate payment, Stuttgart also managed to secure some future financial benefit by including a new sell-on clause in the deal with Brighton.
Because of some existing sell-on and buy-back clauses related to Andrés, Real Madrid is getting over €11 million directly from this deal. However, this transfer also means Real Madrid is officially giving up any future control over the player’s sporting decisions and any buy-back opportunities.
Brighton is sticking to its playbook of finding highly skilled central midfielders who can handle pressure and have a lot of potential. The club acted fast to get this verbal agreement in place, and medical checks are already underway at Brighton.
Once all the medical tests are cleared and everyone involved signs the final paperwork, we should see an official announcement within the next day or two.
