Aston Villa has had serious discussions about signing Aaron Wan-Bissaka, a 28-year-old defender from West Ham United, according to The Athletic and The Daily Mail. What started as just looking into the market has turned into a real pursuit, and Villa seems to be in the best position right now, ahead of other Premier League teams like Arsenal and Everton.
Since Unai Emery took over at Villa Park, Matty Cash has been the only experienced right-back on the team. Even though the young player Kosta Nedeljkovic looked good in the pre-season games, Rangers from Scotland might want to loan him so he can get more playing time.
Villa had tried to sign Emerson Royal, a former Tottenham full-back, but it didn’t work out. Because of this, the team’s management realized it was too risky to depend on players who usually play in the center of the field or rotate players at right-back, especially with their busy schedule in both domestic leagues and European competitions.
West Ham, after being relegated from the Premier League, is willing to sell Wan-Bissaka but is asking for £25 million. Wan-Bissaka, who used to play for Manchester United and Crystal Palace, signed a long-term contract when he joined West Ham in 2024. This gives the East London club some power in negotiations, even though they were relegated. Villa is now deciding whether to buy him permanently or try to get him on loan first, with the possibility of buying him later. This is partly to follow UEFA’s financial rules.
