Kevin Danso Set to Join Sunderland from Tottenham

Sunderland reached an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur to bring in defender Kevin Danso.

This 27-year-old Austrian international is expected to join the Stadium of Light on an initial loan, with an option to buy later, in a deal reportedly worth about £25 million. A medical is already scheduled as Sunderland works to iron out the final details before the transfer deadline.

It turns out Danso himself asked to leave North London. His playing time had become limited since the new manager, Roberto De Zerbi, revamped the defense. De Zerbi brought in new players like Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke over the summer, and Micky van de Ven also signed a new long-term contract.

For Sunderland, their manager Régis Le Bris is getting someone with proven Premier League quality and European experience for their central defense. This will be a big help as the club juggles their top-flight commitments and their Europa League campaign.

Danso initially joined Spurs from Lens back in early 2025 and played 37 times for them. Now, he looks set to be a key part of Sunderland’s defense for the upcoming season.
