Manchester United seems to be getting serious about finding new defenders. They’ve been having some quiet talks with the people representing Jorge Salinas, a 19-year-old left-back from Spain. The whole thing now comes down to what the United board decides financially. Racing Santander, Salinas’s current club, has made it pretty clear through their sporting director, Chema Aragón. They’re not letting him go for anything less than his buyout clause, which is 13.7 million pounds. Santander has already turned down offers that were lower, even one for 12 million pounds that was structured in a certain way. They’re holding firm on the full amount.
It seems like Manchester United had a few other players they were after, but things didn’t work out. So, the recruitment team and manager Michael Carrick have now put Salinas at the top of their list. They see him as a great fit to add depth and create competition on the left side in the long run.
This young player had a really good season in Spain, with 7 assists in 34 games. He also showed he’s very disciplined tactically.
