Charlton Athletic Sign Former Arsenal Goal Keeper

Charlton Athletic have agreed to sign goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo on loan from Wrexham AFC for the season. Okonkwo is entering the final year of his contract, meaning he’ll be a free agent in the summer of 2027.

Charlton needed to improve their goalkeeping options, and Okonkwo seems like a good fit. He’s 6’6″, which gives him great presence in the air, and he’s known for his command of the penalty area. He also has valuable experience from Wrexham’s promotion campaigns.

Bringing him in on loan means Charlton gets a strong starting goalkeeper without having to pay a transfer fee right away. For Wrexham, letting Okonkwo play out the last year of his contract elsewhere suggests he likely won’t be at the club long-term, and he’ll be free to look for new opportunities next summer.

Okonkwo has played for England at youth levels but has decided to represent Nigeria internationally. He’s at a crucial point in his career. A great season at Charlton could make him a highly sought-after free agent for the 2027-28 season, or it could even lead to a permanent move to The Valley.
