Harry Kane has cooled down talk about a quick return to English football, saying he doesn’t feel the strong pull to come back to the Premier League anymore.
The England captain told journalist Henry Winter that when he first left Tottenham for Germany, he did think about returning to England. But now, he’s completely focused on his life in Munich with Bayern. Other reporters have also said he’s close to signing a new contract there.
Kane said, “When I first left, for sure it was something that I thought I’d definitely be coming back. That itch isn’t there as much anymore. I’m extremely happy here in Munich.”
Kane made the big €100 million move from Spurs to Bayern Munich in the summer of 2023. At the time, many experts thought it was just a temporary step for him to win trophies before coming back to break Alan Shearer’s Premier League goal record of 260 goals (Kane is second with 213).
But Kane has scored a lot in Germany and fit right into the Bayern team, which has clearly changed his mind.
He started scoring immediately in the Bundesliga and broke individual scoring records in his first season. Instead of looking at English records, Kane is now focused on winning the Champions League and Bundesliga titles with Bayern. Off the field, Kane has often mentioned how well his family has adjusted to living in Bavaria.
For years, Alan Shearer’s record of 260 Premier League goals looked like Kane’s ultimate destiny. Leaving England just 48 goals shy of the mark was seen by many as a temporary pause on history.
With Kane now 31 and committed long-term to Bayern Munich, that historic record may remain untouched for the foreseeable future. If Kane sees out his contract in Munich, a return to English football while still in his prime becomes increasingly unlikely.
