Newcastle United in Exploratory Talks with Manchester City for Nico González

Newcastle United has started talking with Manchester City about possibly signing Nico González, a 24-year-old Spanish midfielder.

David Ornstein from The Athletic reported that these talks are just the beginning and aren’t far along. The two Premier League clubs haven’t discussed any specific transfer fee yet.

González came up through the FC Barcelona academy and joined Manchester City from FC Porto for £50 million in early 2025.

He played 60 games for City in total but often rotated in and out of the team. Newcastle’s manager, Matthias Jaissle, is looking at González and other players to strengthen the team before the summer transfer window closes.

Newcastle needs to improve their midfield because players like Bruno Guimarães (who went to Arsenal) and Sandro Tonali (who went to Tottenham Hotspur) have left.
