Former Arsenal star and World Cup winner, Patrick Vieira, is set to become the new head coach for the Senegal national team. The Senegalese Football Federation announced the deal, putting Vieira in charge of the team right away.
This is a very meaningful role for Vieira. He was born in Dakar, Senegal, and moved to France when he was eight. He had a great playing career with France, winning the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000. Now, he’s returning to his home country to manage an international team for the first time.
Vieira starts his new job immediately after Pape Thiaw left the position. The FSF will announce the date for his official press conference in Dakar soon.
He’s taking over a team with many talented players who play in top European leagues. His main goals are to change the team’s tactical approach and guide them successfully through the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, which begin this fall.
