Sunderland and Toulouse have verbally agreed on a deal for French left-back Dayann Méthalie. The transfer fee is expected to be around £23 million.
After a lot of back and forth, Toulouse agreed to Sunderland’s final offer. The 20-year-old defender is set to travel to Sunderland for his medical and to finalize the transfer in the next few days.
Last season, Méthalie played 27 games in Ligue 1 and became known as one of the league’s best young full-backs. He’s good at tackling, can recover quickly, and stays calm when he has the ball and is under pressure.
This signing strengthens Sunderland’s defense on the left side. Head coach Régis Le Bris now has a long-term option with experience playing in a top European league.
Méthalie will soon be in England to undergo his medical checks, sign a contract for several years, and be officially introduced at the Stadium of Light.
