Ajax Secure German Playmaker on Free Transfer Until 2029

AFC Ajax have officially completed the signing of German attacking midfielder Julian Brandt.

The 30-year-old playmaker arrives in Amsterdam as a free agent following the expiration of his contract at Borussia Dortmund, putting pen to paper on a three-year deal that keeps him at the Johan Cruyff Arena until June 30, 2029.

Brandt was one of the most coveted unattached players in Europe this summer. Premier League side Leeds United pushed heavily for his signature, but Ajax’s persistent pursuit over several months ultimately won the German star over.

“Julian has chosen Ajax, and we are absolutely delighted about that. We have been in talks for several months, and he also had the opportunity to sign for other clubs. With Julian, we are bringing in a top international player with a wealth of experience and a fantastic mentality.” Jordi Cruijff, Ajax Technical Director.

Brandt brings elite pedigree to the Eredivisie, having spent over a decade at the highest levels of European football

Brandt’s versatility makes him an ideal engine for Ajax’s tactical system. Capable of playing as a central attacking midfielder (#10), an advanced #8, or drifting inside from the wing, his vision, line-breaking passes, and technical composure will elevate the Amsterdammers both domestically and in European competition.

Joining Ajax’s core alongside other high-profile summer targets, Brandt’s arrival signals clear intent to restore Ajax to the pinnacle of Dutch and European football.
