Manchester City are actively working to bolster their goalkeeping department following the departure of backup goalkeeper James Trafford.
According to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, City have earmarked Olympique Marseille’s experienced shot-stopper Gerónimo Rulli as their primary target. The 34-year-old World Cup winner with Argentina is understood to be keen on the move, with Marseille officially aware of City’s interest.
With James Trafford moving on to secure regular first-team minutes, City needed a reliable, experienced number two to back up their starting goalkeeper.
For the Cityzens, Rulli’s potential arrival brings a fascinating sense of deja vu as back in 2016, Manchester City officially signed Rulli from Deportivo Maldonado before immediately loaning him to Real Sociedad and later selling him permanently. Rulli famously never set foot in the Etihad or played a single minute during his initial stint under contract.
