Carlos Cuesta and Parma Calcio have mutually agreed to go their separate ways. This decision comes after discussions revealed different ideas about how to develop the squad, what our transfer approach should be, and the overall direction for the club’s sporting project.
It’s interesting that Cuesta leaves on a win, having beaten Genoa in his last game. When he first joined Parma, he made quite a splash in Europe. He was the second youngest manager ever in Serie A and the youngest head coach in any of Europe’s top five leagues.

Under his leadership, Parma finished 12th in the league, securing their place in the top flight with a style of play focused on positional awareness. In total, he managed 48 games across all competitions, with 15 wins and 13 draws. His final match against Genoa left Parma in 13th place.
The split seems to be about strategic differences, not just the results on the field. Reports indicate that Cuesta and the Parma board had different ideas about player targets during recent transfer talks. There were also fundamental disagreements on how to develop the squad over time and how much to invest in the upcoming transfer windows. Ultimately, both sides concluded that moving forward without aligned strategic goals wouldn’t benefit the club.

After turning down offers from other European clubs over the summer, Cuesta is now ready for his next managerial role. Considering his tactical background, including his time with Mikel Arteta at Arsenal, and his successful move into head coaching in Serie A, he’s likely to attract significant interest from top clubs across Europe.
