In an early-season move RC Lens have let go of manager Dino Toppmöller after just six games in charge according to reports from L’Équipe.
The 45-year-old German coach is the manager to be replaced in Europe’s top five leagues for the 2026/27 season.
Toppmöller joined Stade Bollaert-Delelis in the summer to take over from Pierre Sage. He had success by winning the Trophée des Champions against Paris Saint-Germain. He also got a win in the UEFA Champions League group stage against Slavia Prague.
Things went wrong quickly in the league. Lens only won once in their four Ligue 1 matches. They are in place after a disappointing 2–2 draw with Le Mans, a newly-promoted team.
Frustrations grew after the match against Le Mans. Toppmöller openly said his team lacked energy in the half.
There are reports of a disagreement between the club and assistant coach Nelson Morgado. When the club tried to fire Morgado because of disagreements Toppmöller supported his assistant. This decision probably led to his dismissal.
Assistant coach Yannick Cahuzac is set to take charge as the manager for Lens next Ligue 1 game against AS Monaco.
