Wilfried Gnonto is heading to Fiorentina, a deal that went through right on deadline day. He’s coming over from Leeds United, and it’s a season-long loan to start.
There’s also an option to buy, which could push the whole package up to around £18 million. Fiorentina is also picking up his entire salary while he’s with them.
It’s interesting because Gnonto has already played for the Italian national team thirteen times, but this will actually be his first taste of Serie A football.
He started out in Inter Milan’s youth system, then left Italy back in 2020 to play for FC Zürich in Switzerland. From there, he made the move to Leeds in 2022.
Now, with a new manager, Fabio Grosso, at Fiorentina, they were looking to add some speed and directness to their wing play. Gnonto seems to fit the bill.
He’s got a low center of gravity, he’s good at dribbling, and he can play on either side. That kind of versatility is pretty useful in Serie A.
He played almost 150 games for Leeds, even helping them win the Championship title in 2025. So now, he gets the chance to show what he can do back home, in Italy’s top league.
